haven Hospital
Winter Haven Hospital has been an important part
of the Winter Haven community for almost 80 years. First established
in 1926, the original hospital contained 11 beds. Today, the hospital
houses over 525 licensed beds while offering a full range of medical
and rehabilitational services to the local community. With a staff
of over 2500 people, Winter Haven Hospital is Polk County's largest
employer. Unlike many hospitals all the 250 physicians on staff
are required to be board certified.
Aside from the main hospital facility on Lake
Martha, Winter Haven Hospital also operates Regency Medical Facility,
a womans hospital, located at 101 Avenue O SE. Regency offers maternity
services, new born and neo-natal care, gynecology, mammography,
and a variety of other community services. It is also home to the
new Eye Surgery Center.
Also new to Winter Haven Hospital are two new
operating theaters equipped to perform both angioplasty and open
heart surgery. The hospital also operates a 24-hour emergency room,
a full-time clinical laboratory, and an Ambulatory Surgery and Diagnostic
Center that specializes in same-day surgical procedures. Currently
the hospital is undergoing a $24 million dollar expansion that will
add an additional 50,000 square feet to the existing complex.
Winter Haven Hospital is a long time supporter
of Winter Haven Main Street, with hospital employees often serving
a board members. Says hospital president Lance Anastasio: "We're
a community, not-for-profit hospital. We believe it's in the best
interests of the hospital and the community for us to be supportiveof
the downtown district. We believe that it is beneficial to both
the community and the hospitalif the Main Street area is economically
healthy."
Main Street Winter haven is grateful for Winter
Haven Hospital's ongoing support.
